Bohemian F.C 3 (1) Newcastle University 0(0)
Saturday October 22nd
Northern Alliance Division 1
Benson Park
Bohs produced a strong second half peformace to clinch an ultimately comfortable win over a visiting University side who had dominated possession in the 1st half without ever really threatening. Bohs did not deserve to be ahead at half time but were, thanks to Andy Renton's sublime through ball and Darren Campbell's pace and composure 3 minutes before half time.
After some hairdryer treatment from manager Merv Bell at half time, Bohs came out flying second half and doubled their lead in seconds when Renton cut in from the right and smashed in a great left footed effort over the visiting keeper onto the underside of the bar and over the line. Bohs were rampant for a while, Iain Harris thumped a long range shot against the bar while Renton and Matty Atkin were well denied by the visiting keeper. Bohs eventually killed off the game in the 65th minute with a great individual effort from Harris who was fully deserving of the Man of the Match honours.
