THE REBIRTH OF BENSON PARK

We are now proud and pleased to be playing at the Bohemian Ground, Benson Park in Gosforth, which is on the other side of the road from Northern Rugby Club. It is an enclosed private ground with a pavilion and large pitch.  We shared it with a now disbanded team for the 2001-02 season and have had exclusive use since the 2002-003 season with the Reserves also using the ground. Bohemian Football Club played there until their demise in the late 1990's. Potentially the ground is the best that any truly amateur club could have in the area, which is only fitting for a club of our status.

Unfortunately little or nothing had been to the ground in the last decade as a result the pitch was a weed covered mess. The players worked hard cleaning up the pavilion, sorting out the showers, repairing the car park, clearing out years worth of junk etc to good effect. Gradually each season the playing surface has improved due to postponing games when the pitch is too wet, regular cuts in the growing season and summer work on the pitch when finances allow. Until the 2008-09 season, the club employed outside agencies to cut the pitch but following the purchase of a tractor we now do it ourselves.  This season this has been done by a small number of volunteers,

Long term are planning on getting a grant from the Football Foundation to pay for 65% of the costs. We have had a representative out from the Football Association and he appeared both positive and supportive of our plans but to get major work done we obviously need to raise a significant amount ourselves.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
1st team and Reserve team players willing to cut and mark pitch should let Andy Parkinson know.
