THE REBIRTH OF BENSON PARK

We are now proud and pleased to be playing at the Bohemian Ground, Benson Park in Gosforth, which is on the other side of the road from Northern Rugby Club. It is an enclosed private ground with a pavilion and large pitch. Last season the 1st team shared it with a now disbanded team and for the 2002-003 season our 2nd team will also use the ground. Bohemian Football Club played there until their demise in the late 1990's. Potentially the ground is the best that any truly amateur club could have in the area, which is only fitting for a club of our status.

Unfortunately little or nothing has been to the ground in the last decade as a result the pitch is a weed covered mess. The players have been hard at work cleaning up the pavilion, sorting out the showers, repairing the car park, clearing out years worth of junk etc to good effect. But we lack the resources to sort out the pitch. Expert groundsmen have informed us that sorting out the pitch will cost up to £4,500. Our aim is to raise that money and then some more to purchase the machinery to allow us to maintain the pitch ourselves to a high standard.

We are planning on getting a grant from the Football Foundation to pay for 65% of the costs. We have had a representative out from the Football Association and he appeared both positive and supportive of our plans. Northumberland School Girls Football Association is going to utilise the ground in midweek for tournaments and training and will submit a bid jointly with Garnett Bohemian F.C

Obviously the players are working hard to raise money but it will take several seasons for the players alone to raise the funds we need. As always the club is totally self-financing with the players paying £40 subs and £2 match fees this season if they work and half these amounts if they are students. This revenue plus fund raisers covers league fees, strips, hire of pitches and maintenance of Benson Park.
