Match
Report A sparkling first half display gave the 1st team a confident boosting away win over 1999-2000 Champions Felling Grayhound. Garnett's passing and movement proved too much for the highly committed and physical opposition. Encouragingly Garnett consistently played the ball wide through the full backs and ever-available wide midfield players Rowson and Logan. Howie Sorensen had a dominant game in the centre of midfield and Irish youngster Dave Alexander, giving his best performance yet in a Green and Black shirt, was at the heart of all Garnett's best passing movements in an excellent team performance. Garnett scored four quality goals in the 1st half, one a fine individual effort by Alexander and the other three clinical finishes after slick passing movements from Alexander again and Andy Ree twice. If not for the crossbar and good goal keeping both scorers could have been celebrating first half hatricks. Turning round 4-1 up, Garnett continued to be the better side and could have scored many more if the final ball into the box had matched the approach play. Some over elaboration at the back led to an unnecessary penalty being given away and lifted Felling but Garnett defended resolutely with few further scares, young keeper Craig Gracie gave a confident performance. Garnett have now won four and lost four away from Bohemian Ground, where they are unbeaten, and if they can maintain a similar level of commitment and passing can have serious hopes of retaining top spot. Garnett Gracie, Elliott (capt), Curtis, Carnley, Gabrielsen, Sorensen, Logan (Hopkins), Burke-Murphy (Holmes), Alexander 2, Ree 2 (Watson), Rowson. Subs not used: Haillay, Webb |
