Thursday 18th April 2002 Garnett B
1 (0) vs. (1) 1 Dynamo Fenham

Match Report Garnett B all but clinched promotion on Thursday night with an excellent second half rally against Dynamo Fenham. Providing JCB do not win their last two games (including one game against Champions Jesmond Mysterons) by a combined margin of 11 goals, first division Corinthian football is assured for the Green and Black next season. A nervy lacklustre first half, saw Fenham take a 1-0 lead through an excellent 25 yard strike after the ball was given away cheaply. Garnett probably were unlucky to be down at half time, but had not matched either the fluency or effort of Saturday's win against the Mysterons. A rallying team talk and couple of tactical changes followed, and Garnett produced a much better second half showing that should really have guaranteed the three points. Cusworth moving into Centre Midfield shored things up, and allowed Wonders to run the Fenham defence ragged on the right. Several good chances were spurned before sub Kenny Rosback was introduced for the injured Jones. Rosback's pace and strength forced Fenham back as Garnett began to establish a grip on the game. And after strong running on the left, Rosback pounced on a defensive mix-up to produce a finish of the highest quality from a very narrow angle. Fenham were by now offering little as an attacking force, with Shaw only having one or two things to do in the Garnett goal, as Carnley and Powers shut out the talented Fenham attack. More chances went begging, notably Concoran shooting straight at the keeper, and Bell firing over, before in the last seconds the Fenham keeper produced an outstanding save from a Pollard strike, after good work from Carnley on the right. So the point should be enough, but Garnett really deserved all three on the balance of the game, and have been unfortunate not to have claimed more than two points in their three games against what is albeit, a much-improved Dynamo Fenham side. Promotion should be finally made certain on Saturday, providing Jesmond Mysterons get a result against JCB Eindhoven.
